Balliol College was founded in 1263. The Victorian Gothic Master’s Lodgings that you see overlooking Broad Street were designed by Alfred Waterhouse in 1867. Notable old member of the college is Adam Smith, author of ‘The Wealth of Nations'. The college is known for its diversity and academic excellence.
